This unique group of plants contain about 212 genera and 2779 species belonging to family Palmae or Arecaceae. Palm trees inhabit nearly every type of habitat within their range from rainforest to deserts. Contrary to their typical coconut tree like appearance, palmsexhibit an enormous diversity in physical characteristics. Palm trees are of high ornamental value.
